MIZEN BLUE "Victory" SHO Mother of Pearl Weave × ARLNATA
Share
MIZEN is a project to build a luxury brand that puts artisans who practice traditional Japanese techniques at the center, based on the philosophy that "luxury is the feeling of connection between people."
By designing traditional Japanese techniques in a way that suits modern lifestyles and proposing them to people not only in Japan but all over the world, we aim to improve the status of highly skilled artisans and increase the sustainability of the industry.
In September 2023 , MIZEN will produce a collaboration between mother-of-pearl weaving in Kyotango City, Kyoto Prefecture, and ARLNATA , a brand run by a former HERMES designer who tailors clothing from bolts of high-quality tsumugi and other fabrics.
We will also be presenting clothing made using the original patterns created for this project, the mother-of-pearl weave MIZEN BLUE "Victory" ~SHO~ "Two-piece Nishikiji Mother-of-pearl Weave Arrow Feather Pattern" and "Nishikiji Mother-of-pearl Weave Large Arrow Feather Pattern."

It is similar to the hamaya arrow used during New Year's visits to shrines.
A pattern that wards off evil spirits and bad luck.
Among the samurai, it was considered to be connected to the valuing of martial arts .
Creation ideas
- The desired color can be achieved by combining the brocade weave, black warp threads, and navy blue weft threads .

RADENORI 〈 KYOTO PRE. 〉
The Tango region has a history of more than 1,300 years as a traditional producer of silk fabrics.
It has supported the traditional Japanese culture of kimono.
The "ra" in "raden" refers to shell and "den" refers to intricate work.
In Japan, it developed as a way to decorate lacquer and became established as the name of a technique. This technique was combined with a traditional weaving technique (hikihaku) to create a new technique. Thin, plate-shaped shells are cut into shapes and pasted onto washi paper, which is then cut into thin, thread-like strips and woven into the weft.
